Last Friday night was Jazmen Moore’s night, as she eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for her career by nine, scoring 18 points.
Moore’s play and leadership on this team is a culmination of four years in which she has represented Caroline High School with a strong competitiveness and an ability that has brought the girls basketball program to the forefront.
In the end, the game belonged to the Yellow Jackets, as they pulled away in the last quarter for a 57-50 victory over the Cavaliers.
Moore’s consistent hard driving play, matched by Hope Toliver with 15 points, kept Caroline in the game. Forward Rejon Hawkins scored 10 points, but her real value was seen in her rebounding ability and drives on the basket.
With Moore being the only senior on the team, the future looks bright for the Lady Cavaliers, who have some extremely talented younger players already showing their heightened skill levels in games, in particular at the guard position. Freshmen guards Mykaila Smith and Nyasia Brown give Caroline a future to look forward to.
In the second half, Monica Dit was a force to be reckoned with, pulling a double with 10 points and 15 rebounds. In addition to Dit, Shakira Austin, and Darlon Holmes also had double-doubles with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 10 points, 10 rebounds, respectively.
