Park program examines refugee experience
FREDERICKSBURG - This summer Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park is offering a dramatic presentation of the refugee experience in Fredericksburg.
‘Driven From Home: A Refugee Remembers,’ is a 15-20 minute first-person presentation by Mary Caldwell, a resident of Fredericksburg during the Civil War.
Visitors encounter her along the Sunken Road outside the Fredericksburg Battlefield Visitor Center, and she relates her harrowing experience of the town’s occupation and bombardment, her life as a refugee, and the impact of these events on her life. Caldwell stops visitors...
