Caroline County Fair is a breezy, fun whirlwind

Sunday afternoon, as the super-successful 2009 Caroline County Agricultural Fair was winding down, Ann Tate, 80, sat in the shaded doorway of the Historical Center, her son Herbert standing close by.
"Everybody's getting a little weary now, a little tired," she said. "It's been hot, but in July you expect that." For everyone, Ann included, the previous four days as well as the weeks before had been momentously busy.
Wednesday was the the grand opening of the 40-acre site Ann donated – a broad stretch of gently sloping, grassy high ground known for its steady breeze. As temperatures on Saturday and Sunday edged into the high 90s, that breeze was a cooling lifesaver,...
