There was plenty of family fun in Dawn on Saturday at the Hard Times Motorcycle Club's First Annual "Community Day" held at the Community Center. About 100 attended.
"This is our way of giving back to the community," said club president Ervin Wilkerson. The Hard Times Motorcycle Club has 12 members, most all of them Caroline High graduates of the Class of 1998.
Soft drinks were free and so were hot dogs and hamburgers, with a free raffle for gift certificates and bikes.
One of the first events of the day, which started at noon, was the Powerwheel Race, with seven racers competing. The event was won by 3-year-old Thomas Irvin Frye, Jr. who was awarded a $25 gift certificate at Toys-R-Us.
Everybody also got "Community Day" t-shirts.
Another big event was the Horseshoe Tournament, won by Travis Rollins and Marvin Peatross; they were awarded Appleby's gift certificates. In the Three-Point Contest of basketball-marksmanship, Jhamal Wilkerson was the winner, and was also awarded an Appleby's.
Three bikes were given away in a free raffle, a boy's, a girl's, and a toddler's. Three gift certificates were also given to Southern Truck and Customs on Route 207, for $100, $50 and $25.
"Next year we want to make it bigger and better, probably at Caroline Park and with sponsors," said Wilkerson.
The Hard Times Club enjoys riding the back roads of Caroline and motorcycle trips to Virginia Beach. |
