Caroline native makes movie premiere
|
Ashby Stuart Brooks graduated from Caroline High School in 2000. A firm believer in living life to the fullest, he made a lasting impression on many of his teachers and friends. He has always been encouraged to follow his dreams and one will be coming true this Saturday at the Byrd Theatre.
The Two Plates will be premiering at 4:00 p.m. at the Byrd Theatre. It is an urban tale in the heart of Richmond Virginia about two hustlers who find counterfeit money printing plates, embark on the ultimate hustle and go in two different moral directions. Ashby plays one of the team. He also provided some of the background music, another passion.
The Two Plates was directed by Jonathan Straiton, an up and coming independent filmmaker. Straiton won eight awards at two Film Festivals, most notably the 2006 B-Movie Fest in upstate New York for his first film, Big Fish in Middlesex.
Ashby met Jonathan while working at the Virginia Crossings Resort as a chef. He now works at the Montauk Yacht Club in the Hamptons. He will be coming home this Friday for the premiere and to visit with family and friends.
The Byrd Theatre is located at 2908 West Cary Street in Richmond. Built in 1928, it became a State Landmark in 1978 and a National Landmark in 1979. It features the old-time movie setting with ornate décor in orchestra and balcony seating and organ that would be played during intermissions. Movies usually cost $1.99 per person, but the admittance fee for this particular movie is $5.00.
