The friendly face of Mike Weise may continue to be a familiar one in Bowling Green and Caroline County.
The former Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney, who served two years with former Commonwealth's Attorney Harvey Latney, said he is considering opening an office in Bowling Green. He presently has an office in Mechanicsville.
"I love Caroline and want to do as much work as possible there," Weise told The Caroline Progress on Friday. "Some of my finest hours in the practice of law were in Caroline County. I never had so much job satisfaction as with the people there."
Weise said that he greatly appreciated the congeniality and cordialness of the people in Caroline and that he'd like to continue to work in such an environment. He also said he liked the way Juvenile Court was conducted.
"Caroline takes time to examine each kid and find out what's best. The Sheriff's Office knows the people and they do what is appropriate in each case," he said.
Weise also praised former Commonwealth's Attorney Harvey Latney.
"Harvey was a wonderful man to work for," Weise said. "He had the unique quality of knowing the defendant and knowing the appropriate penalty to fit the crime. He's eminently
fair."
After 30 years service to Caroline, Latney was defeated at the polls by Tony Spencer who was sworn in as the new Commonwealth's Attorney on January 1.
"Tony's a tremendously smart fellow," Weise said. "He knows the law and he knows how to put on a case. A good example was the Blanton trial. Time will tell if he'll be as beneficial as Harvey."
For relaxation, Weise enjoying rambling the countryside on his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He also enjoys scuba diving and dove at The Great Barrier Reef in Australia in 2005.
His memories of Caroline are fond ones, and it's here he'd like to return.
