Aubrey Scott Roberson, Jr., 95, of Roanoke, formerly of Lynchburg and Richmond, died Sunday, July 12, 2015, at the Virginia Veterans Care Center in Roanoke. He was the son of the late Aubrey Scott Roberson, Sr. and Goldie Wheeler Roberson. He was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Gilbert Preas, Sr.
He was born in Lynchburg Jan. 25, 1920. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. He was a graduate of Hargrave Military Academy and the College of William and Mary. Following graduation, he became an educator. He taught and was an administrator in the City of Richmond and Chesterfield County.
He served in the Port Battalion in World War II and took part in the invasions of North Africa, Sicily, Italy and France. He was overseas for about four years.
He is survived by his children, Aubrey Scott Roberson, III of Midlothian, Jan Roberson Carroll (Scott) of Charlottesville and Ann Roberson Ferland (Ron) of Orlando, Fla.; four grandchildren, Aubrey Scott Roberson IV of Buies Creek, N.C., Evan O’ Connell Roberson of Midlothian, Holly Carroll Kanich (Bill) of Mt Pleasant, S.C. and Courtney Carroll Focht (Jon) of Charlottesville; a sister, Joyce Roberson Goforth of Bowling Green; six great- grandchildren, three nephews, one niece and the mother of his children, Garnetta Kern Roberson of Orlando, Fla.
A service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 25, 2015 at St. Asaph’s Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Bambi C. Willis, rector officiating. Inurnment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
