Suspect sought in Carmel Church abduction attempt

The Caroline County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for assistance in identifying a suspect in an attempted abduction that occurred in the Carmel Church area July 15.

Sheriff’s investigators are looking for a suspect described as a black male, 5-8 to 5-10 in height, and clean-shaven with short hair. He was last seen wearing shorts with a dark colored shirt and is suspected of attempting to abduct a female customer of the Exxon gas station located between U.S. 1 and Interstate 95 on Rogers Clark Boulevard (Route 207). The incident occurred at about 6 a.m., Wednesday, July 15.

CCSO deputies and investigators immediately searched businesses and wooded areas in the Carmel Church area with the assistance of CCSO and Fredericksburg police K-9 units.

“Citizens are asked to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity to the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office immediately,” said Sheriff Tony Lippa.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office at (804) 633-5400. The anonymous tip line is (804) 633-1133. Callers can also use the Metro Richmond CrimeStoppers line at (804) 780-1000.

Callers may remain anonymous, and a reward may be offered for successful tips, Lippa said.
