On Friday, Jan. 29 at 9:45 p.m. the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Medical Personnel and Virginia State Police responded to 14395 Jefferson Davis Hwy. in Woodford, following a report to Caroline County 911 Emergency that shots had been fired.
After a full and complete investigation by Caroline County investigators and the Medical Examiner’s Office, the Sheriff’s Office has concluded that 42-year-old Andre Gray shot and killed his 42-year-old wife, Tina Long-Gray. He then shot their 18-year-old daughter and his wife’s seven-year-old nephew (who was living in their home), critically injuring both. After that he ended his own life.
The office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed that Tina Long-Gray had received a fatal gunshot wound to the chest. Andre Gray was shown to have committed suicide with a gunshot wound to the head. Their daughter underwent surgery last week to remove a bullet. She and the boy are reported to be in stable condition.
The Sheriff’s Office followed normal protocols, waiting until the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed the results of their investigation before releasing a full statement. Last week’s limited release was simply to reassure the public there was not an active shooter on the loose in the community.
“The domestic-related shooting is a tragedy for all families and victims involved,” said Sheriff Tony Lippa. “I want to thank the men and women of Caroline County Fire and Rescue, 911 Dispatch, Virginia State Police and the numerous Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Investigators who responded quickly and professionally to this event.
“I ask for your continued thoughts and prayers in comforting those involved,” Lippa said.
