Whether you’re a first-time voter or experienced citizen, the process can be daunting. Read on for details that make it easy to make your voice heard.
Due to the large volume of candidates this year, the ballot will be double sided. So when you vote, be sure to turn your ballot over and make your selections for the Board of Supervisors and School Board in your district.
If you are not sure about who will be on your ballot, stop by the Registrar’s Office (212 N. Main St. in Bowling Green) and pick up a sample. Ballots are specific for your precinct and your voting district and list only the candidates who represent your district.
On the ballot you will see local candidates who represent Caroline County as Supervisors, School Board members, Soil and Water Conservation Directors and constitutional officers, including the Circuit Court Clerk, Commissioner of the Revenue, Commonwealth’s Attorney, Sheriff and Treasurer. You will also see state candidates for the 4th Senatorial District and three House of Delegates districts (54th, 55th and 99th).
A complete list of the candidates is available at the Registrar’s Office or by visiting the State Board of Elections site (elections.virginia.gov) and following the link “What’s on my ballot?” (https://voterinfo.sbe.virginia.gov/PublicSite/Public/FT2/PublicElections.aspx).
On Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, the polls will open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
If you are unable to vote on Election Day, please consider voting absentee. There’s still time to cast an absentee vote in person at the Registrar’s Office. It’s as easy as filling out the form and selecting the reason for your inability to vote on Election Day.
Remember that a photo ID is required to vote, either on Election Day or absentee. Accepted forms of identification include your Virginia driver’s license, passport, employee ID, military ID, school ID (if located in Virginia), and government-issued ID. If you don’t have a photo ID, stop by the Registrar’s Office, which will provide one free of charge (to be used for voting only).
