Walmart finally got its stamp of approval from the Board of Supervisors at the March 1 meeting.
The rezoning application, zoning ordinance amendment and two special exceptions all passed unanimously. The proposal came about in September and almost six months later, all the kinks in the plan have been worked out.
During the last few months, there have been many meetings and discussions regarding the various disputes between the developers and county officials. All were able to meet in the middle on signage and zoning issues. Both Blackwood Development and the Board of Supervisors expressed satisfaction with the approval.
No date has been set for the building process. The 158,000-square-foot super center will bring approximately 300 jobs to the area. It will anchor the undeveloped Ladysmith Crossing, which will have other retail stores.
