Sheriff Tony Lippa has announced a new one-time program designed to deter crime against seniors by providing free security lighting products to nearly 100 of Caroline County’s low-income seniors.
The program is a direct result of an Office of Attorney General grant that was awarded to the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office and local TRIAD chapter. TRIAD is comprised of the three sectors of a community that partner to keep older adults safe from crime: public safety, criminal justice, and the older adult community.
The security lighting devices range from simple “dusk to dawn” light bulbs with built-in sensors to more advanced motion-activated solar lighting fixtures. The number of devices is limited and will be distributed based on overall need. Caroline County Building Official, Kevin Wightman, has also offered to help the recipients of these products with any necessary mounting or installation, if needed.
An application must be submitted in order to be considered for a free security lighting device. Applications will be distributed throughout Caroline, are available on the CCSO website, and can also be picked up at either the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office or the Caroline County Social Services building.
Please direct all questions concerning this program to Sergeant Chris Hall at (804) 633-1120.
