In the dark year of 1942, as America reeled from the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor and Nazi blitzkrieg ravaged Europe, Caroline County itself was dealt a terrible blow when the federal government seized a third of its territory to create Camp A.P. Hill.

A military training ground, the camp would also serve as a defensive base to guard a possible invasion route up the Rappahannock to attack Washington.

Suddenly disposed of their land, the Baptists of Upper Zion, Liberty, Bethesda and Zoar Baptist Churches were without a church...
